General Questions
HOW MUCH DO TATTOOS COST?
The Neon Jackal has an $80.00 shop minimum and each tattoo is priced individually according to the amount of time and detail involved
I HAVE AN IDEA HOW DO I START THE PROCESS?
We encourage you to look at all of the artist’s portfolios and choose the artist that best suits your style. After you have chosen an artist you can talk with them and start the design process.
DO THE ARTISTS DRAW OR DO I NEED TO BRING IN A PICTURE?
The artists will draw your tattoo but they always appreciate as much reference as you can bring. This helps them understand exactly what you are (or are not) looking for.
HOW DO I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?
You must come in to The Neon Jackal and talk to your artist to schedule an appointment, this allows them to access how much time is needed. Please make sure you have a valid ID. We require a $60.00-$100.00 deposit that will be applied towards your tattoo the day of your appointment, depending upon the size of the project.
WHAT ABOUT TOUCH UP?
The Neon Jackal artists take pride in and guarantee their work. If your tattoo needs any touch up after it is completely healed please call your artist and they will schedule a time. Please allow 4 weeks before scheduling.
HOW LONG DOES A SLEEVE OR BACK PIECE TAKE?
Larger pieces of that nature are usually done in session work. Depending on the piece your artist will let you know how many sessions and how long for each one.
SHOULD I TIP AND IF SO HOW MUCH?
Tipping is always appreciated. You should tip whatever you feel is appropriate for your beautiful piece of art that will last a lifetime.
MINORS
In the State of Texas, Sec. 146.012 prohibits any person younger than 18 years of age to receive a tattoo
PIERCING WITH PARENTAL CONSENT
Minor must be 14 years of age and have a Parent present. BOTH Parent AND Minor must have the required identification. (see below)
REQUIRED IDENTIFICATION
THE ID’S PROVIDED BY THE PARENT AND THE MINOR MUST HAVE MATCHING LAST NAMES AND ADDRESSES; IF THE MINOR ID (WHICH MUST HAVE PHOTO) DOES NOT HAVE AN ADDRESS OR IF THE LAST NAMES DO NOT MATCH, THE MINOR MUST HAVE A BIRTH CERTIFICATE THAT INDICATES THE ACCOMPANYING PARENT’S NAME.
In the case of a name change, please bring an original social security card, divorce decree, or something showing the parent’s original name. If you are the legal guardian of the minor, you must provide court documents proving so. The minor must have a photo ID.
YOU MUST BE ABLE TO PROVE THAT THE MINOR IS IN FACT YOUR CHILD.
If you are considering bringing your minor to The Neon Jackal, please read this section carefully. We require several forms of identification for both the parent and the minor. This may seem excessive but the requirements have been carefully designed to protect all parties involved and are required by state and county law. Not all parents and their children have the same last name or address; therefore, we may require multiple forms of identification.
We apologize for any inconvenience, but this is the only way that we can legally render services for minors. Remember, the law is designed to protect your children.

Aftercare
TATTOOS
Remove the dressing in 3 to 4 days. Wash your hands thoroughly before you wash, apply lotion, or touch your tattoo. Wash your tattoo with warm water and a mild cleanser such as Dial Antibacterial soap. Do not use a washcloth. After the tattoo has been cleaned, pat it dry with a clean towel – do not rub. Wash your tattoo at least once a day.
Keep your tattoo moisturized. Never apply alcohol, peroxide, Vaseline, Neosporin or any other type of petroleum based ointment to your tattoo. The Neon Jackal recommends Hustle Butter or Delab tattoo aftercare products for your tattoo. Apply a thin layer of product 3 to 4 times a day for 14 days.
Most tattoos heal in 2-3 weeks. When properly cared for, most tattoos heal with only a light flaking. Occasionally a scab will form; do not pick or scratch at it. If you remove the scab, a new one will form and you will probably suffer some color loss. It is normal for itching to occur – do not scratch your tattoo. A thin coating of an aftercare product will usually ease the itching. After the initial flake falls off, a secondary flake, known as milky skin, may occur. If, after healing, the color of your tattoo seems to be cloudy, but brightens when aftercare is applied, you have milky skin. This will go away in a few days with regular applications of aftercare.
Avoid soaking your tattoo in water; which means no swimming, hot tubs, saunas, chlorinated water, or salt water. Do not expose your new tattoo to direct sunlight or sun blocking lotions. A new tattoo has no sun-blocking capabilities and will sunburn quickly. A sunburn can increase healing time, and result in excessive scabbing and color loss. Avoid exposing your new tattoo to the various conditions mentioned above for at least 2 weeks. If a touch-up is necessary, please come back within 6-8 weeks.
PIERCINGS
New piercing’s should be cleaned thoroughly twice a day. Wash your hands thoroughly, never touch your piercing with dirty hands! This is very important. Do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Betadine (which will discolor gold jewelry), or petroleum based products on your piercing. Soaps which contain deodorants, cold cream, strong perfumes or other additives should be avoided.
During the healing process, matter secreted from the piercing will dry on the jewelry and around the openings of the piercing. To remove this secretion it may be necessary to first soak your piercing in warm water. For tongue piercing’s, rinse with an alcohol free antiseptic after eating, drinking (except water) or smoking. To help reduce the initial swelling, suck on ice. Avoid foods that are hot, spicy or excessively salty, and keep dairy to a minimum. Avoid alcohol, it can cause dehydration which will result in swelling. Avoid smoking and any oral contact. For lip piercing’s, rinse with an alcohol free antiseptic after eating, drinking (except water) or smoking. Remove any dried matter from your piercing, swab the outside of the piercing with an alcohol free antiseptic and rinse thoroughly. This procedure should be performed twice daily.
Additional methods of cleaning your piercing involve the use of saline solutions. Sea salt soaks are recommended for maintenance of new piercing’s. In a small cup, mix Sea Salt with warm water (1/4 teaspoon salt to 1 cup. of warm water) and soak the piercing for 3-5 minutes once or twice a day for the first six weeks. Make sure to rinse with clean water after salt soaks so there is no residue left. Sea Salt can be purchased at grocery stores in the salt section. You can also purchase saline solutions such as those sold by The Neon Jackal Tattoo.
Oral contact, exposure to bodily fluid, or handling of new piercings can cause infections and should be avoided. New piercing’s should not be subjected to heavy abuse during the healing period. Keep make-up and restrictive clothing away from new piercings. New piercings should never be subjected to hot tubs, bathes, swimming pools, rivers, lakes or oceans. If this precautionary advice is not followed, serious irritations can occur.
With proper post piercing care, infections are rare. Minor soreness may be experienced while piercing’s heal. If the pain continues and the piercing is very sore and/or excessive redness or discharge occurs for an extended period of time, you may have an infection. If you think you have an infection, see a physician as soon as possible. In the case of nostril or septum piercing infections, it is imperative to see a physician without delay.
Body jewelry may be removed and changed when the piercing is healed. However, if jewelry is removed too soon or before the area surrounding the piercing has toughened, the delicate interior of the piercing can be easily torn when new jewelry is inserted. Ear, nostril and septum piercing’s require at least a two month healing period with jewelry left in at all times. All other piercing’s require at least a six month healing period. Check the accessories (balls, and gem-ends) on your jewelry for tightness at least once a day.
Shop Etiquette
THE TATTOO DESIGN PROCESS
You are welcome to come and look any time; we have thousands of designs to choose from. If you want to get tattooed, try to have some idea of what you want. If you have a design, please bring it with you. The more references you have, the easier it will be to explain your idea to your artist. If you cannot find what you are looking for, just ask, artists have plenty of reference and the shop has internet access. Some custom work may require a few days draw time, and you may be asked to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are always welcome.
PRICING
Each tattoo is priced according to the size, location on the body, the amount of color, and detail in the piece. Let your artist know what types of designs you like, and a price range you would like to stay in, so they can help design your perfect tattoo.
TATTOOING & PIERCING
Please do not continue to ask, “Does it hurt?” Tattoos and piercing effect everyone differently, expect it to hurt some. Please sit as still as possible when getting a tattoo or piercing. Please let your tattoo artist or piercer know if you are prone to passing out or if you are queasy or not feeling well at any time. Please do not talk on your cell phone. Please wear appropriate clothing to help expose the area being tattooed or pierced.

Children are welcome if they are supervised. If children are screaming, running amuck, endangering themselves and disturbing other customers, you will be asked to remove them from the premises. We are not responsible for the safety of your children.
OTHER
